Clinical Trial of an Investigational Preventative Antiviral Nasal Spray for COVID-19 for Adults Age 18 and Older.

Thank you for your interest in joining the growing number of people who are ready to do their part to help put an end to the COVID-19 epidemic by participating in clinical trials. This study is now enrolling adults of any age who have not had COVID-19.

You are at high risk of exposure to COVID-19 if you are a frequent traveler, spend extensive time away from home, have significant contact with children in daycare, are a healthcare worker, or have family members with frequent exposures.

The drug being investigated in this clinical trial shares the same goal as a vaccine -- to prevent COVID-19. However, they work in different ways. Vaccines tell the body’s immune system to produce antibodies that fight off infections and provide protection from getting the infection again. The investigational nasal spray being tested in this research study contains an antiviral medication that directly reduces the amount of virus and also blocks entry by these viruses into cells. It is hoped that this will help prevent COVID-19 or reduce its severity.

Research

Doctors and scientists are constantly discovering new medications and devices that may help prevent, detect, diagnose, control, and treat illnesses. A clinical trial or research study is a scientific study that tests these new discoveries. Clinical trials depend upon the participation of volunteers.

Why Participate?

There is no guarantee that subjects will receive any benefit from participating in this study. However, this clinical trial may yield new information that could benefit people in the future by helping to answer questions about the effectiveness and safety of the investigational drug.

Voluntary Participation and Informed Consent

Participation in a clinical trial is completely voluntary. In all research studies, qualified potential participants are first informed about the research study in detail. After receiving this information, all participants must give their consent in writing to proceed. Some clinical trials involve more tests and doctor visits than the participant would normally have for an illness or condition.

Health Insurance and Participation Costs

Health Insurance is NOT required to participate.

You will not be charged for the study drug, study-related procedures and tests, or study visits.

Can I Participate in a Clinical Trial?

Before participating in a trial, volunteers must meet specific requirements. These requirements are based on various factors, such as age, medical history, current health status, current medications, and allergies. The circumstances that allow a person to participate are called Inclusion Criteria and those that prevent participation are called Exclusion Criteria. These requirements are used to ensure the accuracy of the trial as well as the safety of all participants. We will not know whether you satisfy all study requirements until we speak with you and, if appropriate, complete a screening assessment at our facilities.
