A Research Study for individuals who:
  • have type 2 diabetes
  • have kidney disease
  • are taking an ACE inhibitor or an ARB type drug for their diabetes

Diabetes can cause numerous other health problems, including kidney disease or diabetic neuropathy. Two types of drugs are commonly prescribed for those with these complications, one known as an ACE inhibitor and one known as an ARB.

The full name of the ACE inhibitor type of drug is "Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitors."

ACE inhibitor drugs include:

  • benazepril (Lotensin)
  • captopril (Capoten)
  • enalapril (Vasotec, Epaned)
  • fosinopril (Monopril)
  • lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril)
  • moexipril (Univasc)
  • perindopril (Aceon)
  • quinapril (Accupril)
  • ramipril (Altace)
  • trandolapril (Mavik)

The full name of the ARB type of drug is "Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers."

ARB drugs include:

  • Azilsartan (Edarbi)
  • candesartan (Atacand)
  • eprosartan (Teveten)
  • irbesartan (Avapro)
  • telmisartan (Micardis)
  • valsartan (Diovan)
  • losartan (Cozaar)
  • olmesartan (Benicar)

Compensation

While participation in a clinical trial is voluntary, you are compensated for travel. Compensation for out-patient studies is based upon the number of visits required to complete the study.

What should I do now?

If you are interested in participating or just wish to learn more, please provide us with your contact information. We will contact you within two business days after your submission.

Remember

Research

Doctors and scientists are constantly discovering new medications and devices that may help prevent, detect, diagnose, control, and treat illnesses. A clinical trial or research study is a scientific study that tests these new discoveries. Clinical trials depend upon the participation of volunteers.

Why Participate?

There is no guarantee that subjects will receive any benefit from participating in the study. Your condition might not get better or may even get worse while you are in this study. However, this research study may yield new information that could benefit patients in the future by helping to answer questions about the effectiveness and safety of the study medication.

Can I Participate in a Clinical Trial?

Before participating in a trial volunteers must meet specific requirements that are detailed in writing. These requirements are based on various factors, such as your age, medical history, current health status, current medications, and allergies. The circumstances that allow one to participate are called Inclusion Criteria and those that prevent participation are called Exclusion Criteria. These requirements are used to ensure the accuracy of the trial as well as the safety of all participants. We will not know whether you satisfy all study requirements until we speak with you and, if appropriate, complete a screening assessment at our facilities.

Health Insurance and Participation Costs

Health Insurance is not required to participate.

There are no charges to you for participation in this medical research study. You will not be charged for study drugs, study-related procedures and tests, or study visits.

Voluntary Participation and Informed Consent

Participation in a research study is completely voluntary. In all research studies, qualified potential participants are first informed about the research study in detail. After receiving this information, all participants must give their consent in writing to proceed. Some research studies involve more tests and doctor visits than the participant would normally have for an illness or condition.
